It was a long but also very exciting project in the company of Annemijn Pikaar and María Arranz. Sending you lots of hugs, girls :)

We had two weeks for this Wellness project, so we chose to work on an app that offers skin routines.

First of all our task was to prove people's motivations: what are their reasons to buy online or off-line, their skin routines and problems, and their general preferences when having to choose one or another type of routine or procedure. To get all this information, we performed 5 interviews and got 23 answers for the survey.

Out team organized all the information into an Affinity Diagram according to the topics mentioned during the surveys and interviews. And here we saw a huge number of different opinions.

Some of the customers trust only defined brands, others trust previous customers’ opinions. But almost all of them buy their products online because they can review these opinions. And one more point: all of the people we interviewed confirmed that they track their skin state in some way or another, but 100% consider the price when buying.

So, discussing the possible paths to follow, we all agreed that our app should save not only money but the customers’ time. But how to do it?

We have to offer everything that offer our competitors and more in one place. But also we need to choose just one problem to work on. And the best solution could be offering our users personalized products with the right ingredients, according to their skin problems.

Speaking about our competitors, like My Skin Track, Feeling My Skin, Skin Theory, or Skinary, we can see that they offer a lot of tracking options, but only the last one offers more personalized routines. Having this point in mind, we got further.

Our User Persona, and according to our research, would be …

Sofia

Sofia is a young empathetic and tentative girl who wants to get not so expensive routine that fits her needs.

To save money and time for our users, we need to create a highly personalized app that offers a skin tracking feature and the possibility to buy the most suitable for your skin products.

Moscow Method

After sorting all the ideas we could offer to our user, we started thinking about the possible sitemap which helped us to have a better view to how our app will be like.

Out team decided to create two main flows: first one for people who just downloaded the app, and the second one for users who already have their account on the YourSkin. And the most importante point here was about creating a plesurable flow for onboarding process.

Due to have the viisual idea of our future app we put everything on peper, and after some iterations we sent our app for testing on Maze platform. But there we found some problems, which were about clickable buttons and not so clear sign-in process.

As you can see from the Heatmap on Maze, people started taping on “recomended for you” But we didn’t think about activating this option before. And also, the user had a problem with taking a picture directly from the app.

Because of that we redisigned some screens to make it more clear for the user.

We activated the option “recomended for you” that takes you to the next screen where you can see just the products that fit your skin only.

But how can we know if they fit? Will see that in the hi-fi prototype. No spoiler :)

Before going to the hi-fi we had to get some ideas about visual part. For that purpose we had to compare our competitors on a visual part. And as you can observe, all of them have a lot of contrast.

And for being able to jump into design we chose some words to define our product. Our team created the moodboard to test, using this characteristics.

The majority of asked people voted for the third moodboard that they considered “inclusive”, “trustworthy”, “radiant” and “natural”.

Than, you can see our work on the design parts:

Our team worked a lot, and thanks to the talented Annemijn we created a great and very complete design system.

So, time for the hi-fi solution:

YourSkin

As you can see from some screens, first of all, the user receives a few questions about her/his skin state for daily control. And after that, the user can take a skin scan, where she/he will see the existing problems, and the app will adapt the products to the skin state.

Also, the user can buy directly in the app! Which is really time saving. And giving the possibility to choose different products and formats, we give the opportunity to save money.

For the future, we need to improve the solution offering more detailed questionaire and a pack of products like a routine. Not just only a list to buy, but maybe an adapted pack of 3 products for an existting problem. And after that, when the skin problem is solved, being able to offer a change for the products. But we are just trying the MVP :)

We learned how to organise our timing and tasks during the week!

Thank you for having some minuted to read this article :)

Great weekend for everyone!!!!
